每年 9 月 30 日，加拿大全國共同紀念「國家真相與和解日」，這一天同時也是「橙衫日」（Orange Shirt Day）。

設立背景與意義

旨在深刻悼念在加拿大原住民寄宿學校（Residential Schools）制度下不幸喪生、失蹤的原住民兒童，並致敬倖存者及其家庭與社區。這是推動與原住民（第一民族 First Nations、因紐特人 Inuit、梅蒂人 Métis）關係和解的重要一步。

橙衫日（Orange Shirt Day）由來

源於寄宿學校倖存者 Phyllis Webstad 的真實經歷。在她 6 歲第一天踏入寄宿學校時，祖母送給她的新橙色襯衫被校方強制脫下並沒收。從此，「橙色」成為原住民兒童被剝奪文化、身份與自由的痛楚象徵。

"Every Child Matters"（每個孩子都很重要）

呼籲社會大眾重視兒童權益，勇敢面對歷史真相，不讓悲劇重演。

公共紀念與行動

在這一天，民眾會主動身穿橙色襯衫，參加社區紀念活動、閱讀並學習原住民歷史與寄宿學校制度的真相，用實際行動共同為跨文化尊重與和解而努力。

September 30 marks Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a commemoration that coincides with Orange Shirt Day.

This national day honours the Indigenous children who lost their lives or disappeared within the Canadian residential school system, while paying tribute to the survivors, their families, and their communities.

Originating from the lived experience of survivor Phyllis Webstad—whose beloved new orange shirt was stripped away on her first day at a residential school at age six—the color orange serves as a poignant symbol of the stolen culture, identity, and freedom of Indigenous children. Guided by the core spirit of "Every Child Matters," the day encourages individuals across the country to wear orange shirts, reflect on historical truths, and actively engage in learning about First Nations, Inuit, and Métis heritage to foster ongoing respect and reconciliation.
