Latin Children's Fest
2009/12/30 (Wed)

What started as an experiment in the summer of 1999, has turned today into an exciting cultural event for the whole family to enjoy and participate in!

The Latin Children’s Festival- now with a Latin Christmas theme- was born out of the need to give the space necessary for our young ones, the new generation, to put into practice on stage whatever artistic talent may be present and encourage it further in a Latin atmosphere while they learn about their roots and culture in this mosaic that comprise the Latin American community.

This year because of the mayhem that Hurricane Ida left in the Central American country of El Salvador, the Latin Soy radio program in association with the Salvadorean-Canadian Solidarity Council undertook a successful fundraising drive to aid those in need. At the Latin Children's Festival it was announced that they had exceeded their goal of raising $10, 000 to $16,000!!!

All in all a wonderful day in which all of us went back to our childhood for a little while and enjoyed every minute of it!!!

Here are some photos of the highlights of this years Latin Children’s Festival.

No matter how many games are added every year, it's the pinatas the kids go for!!!
We have to congratulate these kids on the great job they did with putting togehter this beautiful play based on the birth of Jesus.
They managed to get the crowd very emotional and reflective at the end, which is always wonderful to see! Also, the whole play was in Spanish, which may have been challenging for the kiddies who were born here!
The Alex Alegria Children's Mariachi Band belted out some good old Mexican tunes!!!
Eduardo Olivares reminds the crowd that the whole idea of the festival is to re-unite the Latin American family, invite those from our diverse multi-cultural communities and spend a day together with a lot of fun and Latino spirit!
